Android x86 porta Gingerbread sul Pc

Android-x86 è un porting non ufficiale che permette di installare l' OS di Google direttamente sul proprio Computer sfruttandone le potenzialità. Dopo alcuni mesi di stallo il Team in questione ha rilasciato un nuovo aggiornamento che permette di avere la nuova release di Android, Gingerbread 2.3.5. Queste sono le "Key Features":

• Kernel 2.6.39.4 with KMS enabled. Most netbooks can run
• Android-x86 in the native resolution.
• OpenGL hardware acceleration for Intel and AMD Radeon chipsets. However, if you have trouble with it, you can disable it by adding HWACCEL=0 to the cmdline.
• Wifi and Ethernet support. Both are configured from the GUI.
• A new text based GUI installer which supports ext3/ext2/ntfs/fat32 filesystems. The installer now supports read-write mode, as well as a tool to create a fake sdcard.
• Bluetooth support for builtin device and external bluetooth dongle.
• External usb drive and sdcard are auto mounted on plugging.
• Add software mouse cursor. Mouse wheel is also supported.
• Compressed filesystem (squashfs).

Ci sono però ancora alcuni malfunzionamenti sconosciuti agli sviluppatori:

• Camera doesn't work.
• Suspend and resume doesn't work on some targets.

Il progetto è molto interessante per tutte quelle persone che vogliono provare il sistema prima di comprarlo e sia per gli sviluppatori che necessitano di macchina virtuali sulle quali creare\provare le proprie applicazioni.
